My yoga teaching will equip you with tools and practices to go within; to ground and centre, enhance self regulation, manage pain, discharge tension and trauma, soothe anxiety and shift perspective. Most importantly my classes provide a platform to be completely present to your whole self.
Over my many decades of teaching yoga, and through my personal practice, my teaching has evolved to address the challenges we all face now – mental health, physical pain and disconnection.
The Pillars of my teaching include:
Self Compassion and Self Acceptance – the foundation to any inner work and all yoga practice. This is an process of accepting our actual, present-moment experience. When we shut out any part of who we are and what we feel, we suffer. This is a heart opening process – to all of who we are and all of life.
Conscious Movement – We have the potential to move in a wide variety of ways. My classes will encourage diversity of movement for optimum health through all ages. Through Yoga Postures, Functional Movement Patterns and Myofascial Release we increase mind/body awareness, release tensions, increase circulation and tissue hydration, improve spinal health, posture, flexibility, strength and balance for a strong, supple and vital body.
Conscious Breathing – the breath has biological effect on our mental, emotional, and physical state, which produces a meditative and soothing state for mind and nervous systems which allows restoration and healing. The breath is the vehicle for life force ( Prana or Qi), through conscious breath and movement we direct and harness vital life energy.
Self Inquiry – Reflective, contemplative self awareness. Working with the nature of the mind. Reality testing our thinking by questioning stressful thoughts and mental narratives, seeing how emotions live in our bodies and how they affect our behaviour and our minds. Caring self–inquiry invites the habitually hidden parts of our being into awareness so the deepest truth of who we are is revealed.
Connection – to your own humanity and that which unites us all.
These are the pillars of Yoga as a living inquiry for living as a open, awake and balanced being.
I honour and embrace each student’s search for personal growth, health and meaning.
We are all enriched through coming together as a community to breathe, move and awaken.
I look forward to retreating with you
