More Info

After 25 years of teaching yoga my focus is to offer yoga practices that combines the rich traditions of yoga with a western understanding of the body to support modern challenges of mental, physical and emotional health within our community.

The Pillars of my teaching include practice of:

Self Compassion and Self Acceptance – the foundation to any inner work and all yoga practice. This is a ‘soft’ process of accepting our actual, present-moment experience, of embracing our own humanity. When we shut out any part of who we are and what we feel, we suffer.

Conscious  Movement –  Our bodies need and love movement.  My classes are are purpose driven and crafted to optimise the effects of your yoga practice on your physiology, mobility, strength, nervous system, and stress resilience.  After 30 years of teaching movement my approach fuses traditional yoga practices with the latest research in anatomy, physiology and therapeutics.

Conscious Breathing –  In class we focus on the breath as a potent tool for well being. The research is showing that the yogic breathing practices can decrease stress, lower blood pressure, improve mood, increase sleep quality, increase lung capacity and immune function, increase mindfulness and cognitive performance. Slowing the breath produces a meditative and soothing state for the mind and nervous system which allows for restoration and healing. In eastern traditions, the breath is the vehicle for life force (Prana and Qi) and yoga practice helps us direct and increase this vital life energy through our body.

Self Inquiry – liberates life energy by becoming aware of and transforming the inner patterns in the following ways;

  • By observing our patterns of thoughts, mental narratives and feelings to uncover how they are shaped by fear and cause anxiety.
  • By exploring how we perceive reality and how it is influenced by preconceived assumptions and attitudes and beliefs.
  • By examining our use of language and habits of speech to discover how we unknowingly reinforce negative circumstances and same outcomes.
  • By looking at our life choices to reveal how they are being limited by self doubt, mistrust and fear.

Awaken –  These mind/body practices allow life’s energy to flow through us so we can approach all of life from a relaxed, open and receptive inner space so we can begin to make choices that will create new possibilities for our life.

I honour and embrace each student’s search for personal growth, health and meaning.

We are all enriched through coming together as a community to breathe, move and awaken.

I look forward to seeing you on the mat soon,

Jen

Accommodation

Deluxe Cabins

For those interested in more creature comforts, then the deluxe canopy cabins may be for you.

Of solid wooden construction, with ample, screened glass windows, the canopy cabins offer maximum protection from the elements, while still offering a close connection to the sights and sounds of the forest.
Larger than the rainforest huts, these cabins are stylishly appointed with polished wooden floors, handmade natural timber furniture and spectacular glass-walled bathrooms looking out high in the trees.

Rainforest Huts

Elegant and yet rustic at the same time. Accessed by a boardwalk to protect the forest floor, the rainforest huts are designed to be like a bubble in the rainforest and can be opened on three sides by sliding timber and glass panels giving a beautiful close rainforest experience.

Each hut has a small verandah, simple furnishings and sleeps up to two in either double or twin bed occupancy. A simple deck extends from the hut, while privacy is created by the natural foliage of the forest. Gravity fed with fresh, cold water collected onsite, the outside ensuites are appointed with a shower, toilet and hand wash basin so that you can shower in the forest, naturally.

Oh what a weekend we had together! After finishing the retreat I feel so inspired and I cannot describe how grateful I am for having had the possibility to join your retreat in this beautiful cassowary environment. It really was such an absolute pleasure to get to know you and spend the weekend with you. I want to thank you Jen and all these lovely and inspiring ladies for sharing your time and your beautiful selves with myself, I personally had such a great time.I think the retreat it a great starting point for developing healthy (physically and mentally) habits. I am certainly taking home a lot from this retreat. KATHRYN ( Germany)

——–

The Mission Beach Yoga Retreat with Jen at Core Life Yoga was AMAZING!  Jen is a fabulous Yoga teacher and the main reason I went on the retreat. Her style of teaching and energy is so welcoming and empowering, as she gives purely from her heart. I highly recommend anyone thinking about doing a retreat to invest in yourself and joining Jen for the next one. Everything was perfect – the quietness of the resort, the yoga sessions, the amount of alone time, the connection to nature, and of course the food. SALLY ( Cairns)

——

I attended the Core Life Yoga Retreat at Mission Beach at the urging of a friend. I thought it was just going to be a good chance to have some time alone away from my kids. But during the afternoon Hatha practice on the second day it turned into something much more. My soul had been fighting against something out of my control for a while. It was something I wanted for my life but was not up to me whether it was going to happen. During that session, Jen’s chosen poses just felt right and I was able to reconnect with my true self. I found space for myself in the world and suddenly felt a deep feeling of completeness and a realisation that if I never got that thing which was out of my control that I would be alright with that.
I hadn’t realised until then how much of an inner battle I had been fighting but the opportunity Jen gave me to take time out and reconnect with myself through reflection and yoga gave me the space I had needed.
Jen is a giving teacher and I always found her way of explaining a pose- not just how it should look but also feel- very natural and intuitive, despite never having attended one of her classes before.
I will definitely be attending another retreat with Jen!  CATHERINE ( Cairns)

——-

I am an official “retreat junkie!” I went to Jen’s first retreat back in 2014 because I knew how much I enjoyed her yoga classes, and figured a weekend of yoga, would be just as much fun. What I didn’t expect was that it would become an annual thing. Retreats with Jen are about so much more than just yoga (although, that part is awesome!). They are about nurturing yourself and giving yourself permission to stop what you think you “should be doing”, and just do what your body feels it needs and wants to do. That may mean going for a hike, or hanging out at the beach, drinking wine, or taking a nap! The beauty of Jen’s retreats is the choice is yours.

What you know for certain is that you will get to spend the weekend in a beautiful location, with AMAZING food, a lovely group of people, and of course, yoga with Jen. Sari 2020
